How do one accept who they are?

QUESTION

How do one accept who they are, and stop comparing one self to other people. And how does one realize that they are good enough?

ANSWER

We learn self acceptance and how to accept others from our parents. When we struggle to accept ourselves as adults it many times stem from well meaning parents who was not able to separate the child from their behaviour. This teaches the child that they are only acceptable under certain conditions. If for example a child messes cool drink all over himself and the dinner table they would tell the child “Bad boy. You are a very bad boy!”. Emphasising that there is something wrong with the child if they do not get it right instead of focussing on what could have been done differently. Children need to know that they are loved and accepted because of who they are and not because of what they do. That they are valued and treasured and can make mistakes. A better response to the example above would then be - “What you did now has caused a big mess. How can we prevent that from happening again?” As adults we can start accepting ourselves by not judging ourselves. Becoming aware of our self-talk can help us recognize when we judge ourselves and why. For example, if I say something I know I should not be saying, I can judge myself afterwards by telling myself I am stupid. (And comparing myself to all the others who I assume ALWAYS get it right) But this will not serve me very well in growing, expanding or becoming the person I want to be. Acceptance would be to rather ask myself the question - “Does it serve me to do things this way?” and if the answer is No, - “What would serve me better?” without any judgement or condemnation. When we love on ourselves in this way we are growing in self acceptance.

Oprah had Dr Phil. I give you the “The Scarlet Pimpernel”

14 Oct 2011

Are you a single Lady and tired of speed/internet dating. Have you had it, with random hook ups and boring blind dates? Is your favourite pass time a foodgasim? Have you passed your sell by date?

Oprah had Dr Phil. I give you the “The Scarlet Pimpernel”

If your answer was yes to all of above! You might need more help, than"The Scarlet Pimpenernel” can provide.

We recently had a brief Q&A and here is his insight, to some questions you might have as a Single Lady!

*************************************

me: Where do you think the best place is for a single lady to find a guy?

The Scarlet Pimpernel: so you looking for single guys?

me: hmmm. advise

The Scarlet Pimpernel:but that shouldn’t be so hard? are they not every where?lol

The Scarlet Pimpernel: best place to find single guys - the world.lol

me: hahahaha

The Scarlet Pimpernel: it’s harder to find single girls

me: Who do you think should be the Hunter, The Man or the Woman?

The Scarlet Pimpernel: aint nothing wrong with a woman dropping hints, but then the guy should fill in the rest

me: true. Insightful..

The Scarlet Pimpernel: that’s how I roll.lol

me: What is the dress code required when you on the hunt?

The Scarlet Pimpernel: less is more :P

me: Really!

The Scarlet Pimpernel: depends what kinda guy you looking for. If you looking for hook-ups then dress slutty, if you looking for serious then, dress more conservatively

me: What is the common mistake single ladies do?

The Scarlet Pimpernel: let me think..

They talk about their problems. A guy wants a carefree girl not problems. So if off the back they complain about shit, he can already think "nah, this chick is a moaner"

me: hmmm

The Scarlet Pimpernel: well, that’s what I think anyways. I like carefree, cute whimsical typa girls

me: If you still single at 32 should you care if the guy is in a relationship or married?

The Scarlet Pimpernel: yes, you demonstrating lower value if you do that

It’s like saying "I can’t get anyone better so I will take someone I shouldn’t be with"

me: I agree you should not lower your standards, always value yourself.

me: How do you feel about Cougars?

The Scarlet Pimpernel: I don’t mind if a woman is older.

you can have connections with people no matter what the age, lot of people say they want partners that is between so and so an age, but you limiting your chances of you already discrediting people you never met

me: Do you prefer Wildcats/Cute Kitties?

The Scarlet Pimpernel: cute kitties

me: What’s the most important thing that a girl needs to have, personality wise?

The Scarlet Pimpernel: er...

Humour - that’s important especially for me. lol

me: Last but not least - Is there such a thing as woman/girl who is too smart?

The Scarlet Pimpernel: no, there is no such thing. The problem with anyone that is "smart" is the arrogance that comes along with it. If a person is smart and humble then that’s all good

me: Thank you Scarlet Pimpernel

The Scarlet Pimpernel: THE

The scarlet

lol

me: hahaha

I do apologise.

***************************

Well Ladies there you have it. So if you are going out on the hunt, all slutty wild cat or a conservative kitty. Remember to have a sence of humour and don’t be a moaner on the first attack.

I say be true to who you are. Many of us are in such a rush to find the “The One” we sometimes act a fool and loose who we are. There is all this unnecessary pressure and limitations we put on ourselves.

Oi the scary thought of settling!!! Enjoy your Sigledom and live to the fullest. Things will always happen, when it is meant to happen.

My friend Deshni said something very profound, over supper the other night.

“We might have 30/40/50 years ahead of us, why are we stressing?”

-Mwwwshims! Happy hunting… oh! Don’t forget to throw the hints-

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go."

Learn from my Fail!!

13 Oct 2011

In April this year I moved into my own place. This was an exciting time for me!!!

The very first time I was going to live with Me, Myself and I….

Crazy luck the universe threw my way. I saw an apartment advertised right next door to my old flat...

Walked in and just loved the space. I was a bit weary to look around, because it was the crazy neighbor’s T and I ratted out to the cops a few times (Oops!)

Called the estate agent next day and in two days time all was sealed, signed and delivered.

A week later comes moving day. Beyond excited!!! I turn the key and open the door to a complete mess!!! Major Filth attack!! Walls, floors, cupboards. Every inch of that flat was a WTF sight..

What the heck happened to the place I viewed…? Oi Lynne! You viewed it alright, but did you do a proper inspection?

My Advice….

  • Never view an Apartment /House in the evening. If you do, please go back during the day. You will be able to see what condition the place is really in.

  • Insist on viewing the flat with the estate agent by your side. If there are any problems, the agent must take note of it...
  • Any painting or any repairs should be done prior to you moving in. Trust me it is not fun having to clean paint off your curtains and furniture.
  • NB NB! It is the previous tenants or owners duty to make sure that the place is left in a livable condition. It is not your duty to clean up after them. F that shit!
  • NB NB!! An inspection should be done by the estate agent before the previous tenants or owners move out AND After. Do not sign anything unless that is done!

After loads of tantrums and threats the house that jack build, is finally a space I can truly be proud of.

My Pet.

12 Oct 2011

My favorite flowers in the whole wide world, has always been the Sunflower and the Orchid.

Went to Stellenbosch fresh goods market, last month and picked up this beauty for only R60.00 bucks. Yes that figure is correct just R60 bucks and if the plant has buds on it then, wait for it !!! R80.00 bucks.

Although people say that Orchids, make a difficult house plant, it is actually very easy to take care of.

QUICK CARE FOR YOUR ORCHIDS

  1. Phalaenopsis hybrids enjoy the light behind curtains and window blinds.
  2. When watering your orchids, take care to avoid wetting the leaves. If water gets trapped in between the leaves, dry them quickly by using a piece of tissue or a cotton ball.
  3. After watering, do not allow residual or standing water to come in contact with the base of the orchid pot.
  4. When the last flower drops, cut your flower spike halfway down the stem. A possible rebloom will occur if you continue caring for your orchid.

I finally did it!!

09 Oct 2011

I finally did it!! So, so proud of myself. I did not cry or scream like a crazy banshee!!!

Thank you so much to my friend Taryn for holding my hand, through most of it... Many people told me this could become addictive. No thanks, not again. I did it! (clap handies) on to the next crazy venture.

This Tatoo is a toast to my journey, over the past two years.

If only life came with a manual right? But I guess there would be no fun in that.

You learn much more about yourself, when you are in a mess and the best part is being able to look back and laugh at your self “bawawawa, How could I have done that?”

Enjoy your journey, live in each moment and I hope you find your life’s message.

I have a very long to do list, or rather to get list.

This month I finally got herbs for the kitchen shelf. Basil, Sage and Lemon Mint. It looks stunning and the AROMA!!! Yummy,Yummy. I gave myself a budget of R100.00 and HA! For a change I managed to stick to it. Believe me it was a very hard thing to do.

The plants cost R 18, 95 each and I managed to pick up three ceramic/terracotta pots, for just 7, 95 each. I don’t really like the colour, but plan on painting it at a later stage
